What it’s like to be a Trainee in Risk and Regulatory Consulting at KPMG
Our Risk and Regulatory Consulting practice advises financial institutions on navigating regulatory change, managing risk exposure, and aligning governance and compliance frameworks with strategic objectives. We support clients across banking, asset management, and insurance sectors, covering a broad range of risk areas – from financial and non-financial risks.
What you will be working on
From day one, you’ll be hands-on:
- AML/CTF & Forensic: participate in anti-fraud and anti-corruption programs, financial crime compliance reviews, forensic accounting, remediation initiatives, and regulatory investigations.
- Governance & Compliance: perform gap assessments, regulatory impact analyses, and help clients design and implement their governance operating model in line with leading practices, regulation and technological trends.
- Financial Risk Management: support regulatory and risk management engagement around credit, market, liquidity, and operational risk (e.g., ICAAP, ILAAP, SREP).
- You will collaborate on communications with client stakeholders, regulatory interpretation, project docs that make an impact, and spot ways to do things better.

What we look for
We’re looking for ambitious, curious, and motivated people ready to crush it. If this sounds like you:
- Start date: anytime between April 2026 to September 2026 can be your starting date, for a 6-month mandatory final-year internship.
- Education: Final-year students of a Master's program in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Law, Sustainability, IT or similar areas. You need to be available full-time after your internship.
- Languages: Fluent in English. Proficiency in French, German, or Luxembourgish is an asset.
- Skills: Analytical mindset, detail-oriented, problem-solving, people skills. You’re comfy in Word, PowerPoint and Excel – pivot tables, formulas, data visualizations.
- Industry knowledge: You’ve interned or done projects in risk, compliance, AML, ESG, audit or advisory. You know the frameworks – Basel, AIFM Directive and UCITS, MiFID, CSRD, ESG-related regulations (SFDR,EU Taxonomy, CSRD) – and you’re ready to put that knowledge to work.
